Our Aim
Our aim is to make our customers happy; as Jenny says, “Panamas are happy products, people wear them because the sun is shining, going on holiday or attending a special occasion”. We are passionate about the cultural heritage of both our Ecuadorian weavers and British hat makers to produce a unique piece of headwear - every Panama we produce is a one-off hand-woven in Ecuador by the local weavers and finished to the highest standard in England.
Our Products
What makes The Panama Hat Company stand out from other brands is our commitment to source only the highest quality raw materials and combine these with the hand-crafted manufacturing skills of workforce, refined through 30 years of experience. The company sources Panamas from around 500 weavers in Cuenca choosing the best of the weaver’s work.
With continued use and love, our Panamas age and combine both elegance and functionality giving a long-lasting beautiful item. A truly hand-crafted ‘Handwoven in Ecuador- Made in England’ product.
Fair Trade
Jenny and Mavi believe in fair trade and invest in small manufacturers as they have a keen interest to grow together in a partnership. They pride themselves on their long lasting relationships with the Panama hat suppliers in Ecuador and developing excellent ties with them over the years.
Having taking a keen interest in the welfare and conditions of the skilled Panama hat weavers, in 1995, Jenny received the World Vision award for Development Initiative, presented by HRH The Princess Royal. She personally continues to ensure, through our strong supplier relations and other initiatives, that the weavers in Ecuador are well provided for and rewarded accordingly in a fair manner.
Giving Back
Jenny is closely involved with Latin American charities which endeavour to support the children of Latin America by fundraising within the UK.
In Luton at the new Factory, Mavi and Jenny have worked closely with local charities working to get young people back into work, and as a result have employed people to learn hat making. Ehioze, who attends textile college funded by the Company is an apprentice and is quickly becoming a key member of the team. As he states: "I appreciate the chance to learn hat making and working locally”.
Supporting the Local Community
Mavi and Jenny have an on going relationship with the get-back-to-work schemes in Luton to train more staff in hat making. Employing young people who need training and who live locally is a win-win for all.
